Ansättåns Canyon

Ansättåns Canyon, Häggsjövik / Rötviken
Nature
Ansätten consists of hard amphibolite bedrock - a strong transformed, kind of rock. There are cracks in the earth due to movements. Streams and brooks easily follow these cracks. Ansättåns Canyon lies in an old zone. At Broforsen, Källarforsen and Storforsen one can see the dark amphibolite. The huge bowl formations were formed most probably when smelt water from the last ice age built whirls that put rocks and sand into motion and that in turn created hollows in the mountains. All this happened about 9000 years ago. The ice water that then ran into Ansättån (stream) has deepened the furrow and built this canyon.
