Where your legs take you

A buzzard glides over the vast expanses, just as free as you are up on the mountain. A glance at the compass and then onwards, with the wind behind you and paradise at your feet. Up on Nöjdfjället the view is incomparable. Alone in your enjoyment of nature; in summer on foot, in winter on your skis.

If you want to hike along a marked out path you can follow the Blomsterleden, “Flower Trail” up to the top of Ansätten – with or without a guide – an unforgettable experience in high summer. If you’re interested in history and culture you may wish to choose one of the shorter paths in the forest district. If you don’t want to hike alone, book an organised walking tour with one of our organisers.

Three kilometers to the west of Östersund, near the E14 lies the Tylakes-probably the worlds biggest (bleke) limestone area! Bleke is a form of limestone (98% calciumcarbonate) which is dug out of the hills and thanks to the small amount of carbon dioxide that is common in the water, when this rich lime stone water runs down in small streams to the waters lying below the lime is broken down and sinks to the bottom of the lake it is then a greyish colour and it is called - bleke. In the area around the Tylakes there are hills rich in lime stone and that is why there is so much of this bleke. There are around 16 different kinds of orchids over here. During the inventory botanists have found 335 different kinds of plants, 38 moss species and 49 species of lichens. Since the beginning of 1970 the Tylakes are also a sanctuary for birds.
